Burrowing beneath the vessels of an ancient army U2 videos and a philosophical manuscript wall hangings with images of birds on them on my overdue English essay Loud banging noises escape from upstairs waiting silently in the bushes paintings hang with trays of food calming evenings with donated wine Compliments are traded like hockey cards make-believe art exhibitions imitation waves that topple the image of architecture painted either black or International Klein blue Statements grafted onto walls and posts lost on the fire escape in the middle of a rain storm uneven walls make it hard to remember I wait for bedtime Sneaking downstairs the memory waits for me another of those curious dinners table set beside an abandoned YMCA we used to go there during the warm summer nights Behind cement walls we considered our mortality of a hunted prisoner surviving with only a number to call your own houses carried from past to present We could have died when that train passed through time I sit waiting for my name to be called
