Waterbody : Suchita Parikh-Mundul

Suchita Parikh-Mundul works as a copy editor in India. Her poems have appeared in The Bombay Literary Magazine, Gulmohur Quarterly, Outlook India, Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature, only to name a few journals. They have also been included in the anthologies Amity: peace poemsThe Well-Earned (both Hawakal, 2022), On Hunger: A Poetrygram Anthology (ed. Helen Cox, 2023), and The Yearbook of Indian Poetry in English (forthcoming, Hawakal).

I am now of that age when I sit awhile
watching continents form on bathroom

tiles, repeating the life I have lived. How
the tube-light apes the sun, how waterlands

merge only to separate, how they grow
islands like progeny, mimicking each other

like habits. These waterbodies morph
in time-lapse, curating a history in maps,

while I strategise the future
with fingers and toes.
